I’m sure we have all been there. We go online and Google the latest and greatest in anti-aging laser treatments. Who doesn’t want to have beautiful, youthful and glowing skin?
So as you scour the web looking at all of these different options that promise to give you the fountain of youth, you start to get overwhelmed. What is the difference between all of these laser treatments? How do you know which one is right for you?
At the Spa at PSA, we offer two very popular laser treatments. While both are highly effective, they differ in some ways. Thankfully I talked to one of the Spa’s Estheticians, Gail, to help break down both laser treatments for you!
BBL: Broad Band Light
Broad Band Light, delivers light energy to treat skin conditions like pigmentation, vascular lesions, uneven skin texture and laxity on the face and body. Procedures are gentle, non-invasive and safe with virtually no downtime. Your treatment will be customized to your skin type and desired results.
How BBL works
The light energy delivered by BBL gently heats the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your cells to regenerate new collagen. This helps improve the overall appearance of your skin making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking. It also eliminates fine vessels that cause redness to the skin and reduces melanin that produces pigmented lesions.
What conditions can BBL treat?
- Pigmented lesions such as freckles and a
- Age spots
- Vascular lesions like small blood vessels
- Skin laxity
- Unwanted hair
What can I expect during and after a BBL treatment?
Treatment length varies from a few minutes to about 45 minutes; depending on the area treated. You will experience a warm sensation and “rubber band snap” as the light is absorbed. The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient and will be discussed with you by your provider.
• Typically takes 3 or 4 treatments required per year
• Little to no downtime
• Reduces redness on face and improves broken capillaries
• Reduces sun damage
• Stimulates collagen
• Aids in even skin tone and texture in areas treated
• Effective for multiple areas, hand, legs, chest, arms, face and neck
The Halo laser treatments offer the latest in multiple wavelength technology that you can’t get with any other treatments.
They combine deep dermal rejuvenation with epidermal renewal giving beautiful results without the downtime of more aggressive treatments. Patients will see improvements in tone and texture, removal of discoloration, reduction in fine lines and some scarring, reduced pore size and an overall glow.
The great thing about a Halo treatment is that it can be customized to your needs and lifestyle. Lighter, more superficial treatments can be done more often for less downtime, or more intense treatments can be done in one session to achieve maximum results. Depth and intensity of treatments can be adjusted based on the treatment goals of the patient.
What can I expect during a Halo treatment?
Approximately 45 minutes prior to the treatment, your clinician will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to reduce discomfort during the procedure.
Each area is then treated using uniform passes. Most patients describe the treatment as feeling heat with prickling sensations. Warmth is felt in the treated area approximately 1 to 2 hours after it is complete.
Redness and swelling are common for the first few days. After that, patients experience some bronzing to the skin followed by peeling. Most patients can expect this period to last about 5 to 6 days after the treatment.
Smoother, healthier skin is revealed within 2 to 3 weeks. As skin regenerates and heals, fine lines become softer and irregularities smooth out. Changes are seen over 3 to 6 months following the treatment.
Results can last years; however additional Halo treatments can only improve the results you have to give you even better looking skin.
• Typically 1 or 2 treatments required per year
• On average one week of downtime
• Stimulates collagen deep into the layers of skin to plump skin
• A fractionated laser helps resurface the outer layer of skin
• Leaves skin with a youthful glow
